Golden Globe’s Beautiful and Bad
By Brenna Lyden
Needless to say, women watching red carpet events are the equivalent to men watching football. During the ceremonies, women talk to the TV like crazy people, yell “What were you thinking?!” at the celebrities and are guilty of being both pissed off and squealing with joy.
Understand now? Good.
Now here’s my beautiful and bad list of the Golden Globes.
1) Jessica Alba in Oscar De La Renta
Jessica Alba was a breath of fresh, tangerine-scented air. In a bombardment of black and white, this salmon hue was nothing less of refreshing. Her lightly curled tresses were the perfect complement to her form-fitting gown.
2) Julianne Hough in Monique Lhuillier
This blonde-haired blue-eyed beauty is not just the girl next door anymore. Julianne Hough made an edgy style leap in Monique Lhuillier last night. Her bedazzled bodice made an edgy statement that radiated glam in every way possible. Hough hit the perfect style harmony with a full skirt to keep her usual femininity in check.
3) Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood
This is a far cry from Jen’s usual mommy-on-the-go ensemble. Boy are we glad she decided to let her inner glamour shine in this Vivienne Westwood number. Ravishing in this ruby gem, Jen looks oh-so-sophisticated with subtle touches of gold accessories and that understated up do. Even though her husband was the one who snagged a Golden Globe award, she looks like the winner to us.
1) Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier
Taylor swift might be singing a new song after this appearance. It might be titled, “I know my stylist will be in trouble.” This gown did nothing to accentuate her very best features and at best could be described as horribly minimalistic. This raisin shade did nothing for her skin tone. As far as Taylor’s hair goes, it was lackluster and her makeup seemed too old for this youthful star. Carrie Bradshaw called; she wants her dress from 1991 back.
2) Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
Lucy Liu’s floral dress bloomed nothing but disappointment. The ball gown shape mixed with an oversized, chaotic print says more crazy than chic. The lack of attentiveness is reflected through a fussy fishtail braid and barley-there makeup. Lucy Liu, we just don’t know what to do with you.
3) Sienna Miller in Erdem
Sienna Miller is usually the epitome of sexy sophistication, but not last night. She looked more flower girl than fierce in a custom Erdem top and skirt. The three-dimensional flower cutouts just look bizarre on such a seductive starlet. The baby-face hair and makeup didn’t help her case either. I guess this is one way to look younger.
What do you think? Who was on your best dressed list?
